"Canterbury Cathedral has worked with Judges for many years, however in 2000 we decided to make Judges our sole supplier. We had three other suppliers but with such a fast turning product we felt that it was best if one supplier took ownership of the whole area. We rebranded the cards and published up to date versions of some old favourites (The sage coloured Ford Popular had to go!). We worked with Trevor Wolford and his friendly team, particularly Michelle Holland to sell through old stock and launch the new cards at Easter. Seven years on we continue to work in the same way and are in the process of a new branding exercise, again jointly managed.

The product is exclusive to us, which we see as important in a city that is crammed with gift shops, and this helps to add authority to our offering. We order at the beginning of the month and the stock is delivered within the same month which makes stock control simple and means we are rarely out of stock. Juggling sales of 100,000 postcards over a choice of 45 cards can be interesting. As Judges are "local" to us being only just over an hour away at St. Leonard's on Sea it is possible to pop over and get stock if necessary.

We have had other bespoke items such as calendars and notelets and have been closely involved in the design process to get the right product at the end. Judges also printed our successful mail order catalogue for us.

Two new products that they have developed for us this year are a Concertina card which the Europeans have really taken to and mounted cards which may point the way for part of the postcard market as they compete with mobile phones."
